Manager, Professional Services (Testing)

The Manager, Professional Services will manage a team of 4-8 direct reports although they may not be the person supervising their direct reports day-to-day activities. All members of the professional services team are assigned to project teams that could last 3-12 months depending on the scope of the project. The Manager, Professional Services will directly manage multiple projects over the course of the year. Travel is generally 70-80% of the time – mostly in the U.S. and Canada. The manager is responsible for the on time delivery of each customer project as well as the long-term development and performance of their direct report team. All managers have a passion for helping people (both customers and employees). They set high standards for customer service for the project delivery team including demonstrating ownership of the solution and a strong commitment to customer success.

Key Performance Objectives

  1. Successfully deliver assigned projects on-time and on budget with high customer satisfaction. Project teams can vary from 4-5 people for a large project to 2-3 people for a smaller engagement. The Manager owns the project implementation, the customer relationship and the overall timeline and key deliverables. The most successful managers establish a highly collaborative process with the client including full engagement, strong communication and accountability toward each key milestones and goals as specified in the signed SOW. Generally the manager will deliver one project at a time, but occasionally will work two at a time depending on scope.
  2. Fully understand the client’s current internal processes, methodology and business needs by collaboratively engaging each customer in a process re-engineering exercise which results in full client ownership and buy-in. Clearly identify key process improvements that can be addressed and successful adapted to the PowerPlan software and will make an impact on the business. Ensure that implementation efforts address the core business needs and that proper metrics for measurement are established.
  3. Provide Project Specific Problem Solving: The manager is responsible to provide real time problem solving guidance and insights both to the customer and to the team during each project. Managers must be able to identify potential problems quickly and either personally provided for a solution or engage the necessary resources, clarification or help needed to address these challenges real time. Early identification and positive direction is critical to success. Provide real-time coaching to team members and clients.
  4. Develop the Team: Understand the capabilities and development needs of each direct report. Conduct regular assessment of performance (annual and semi annual reviews) for team members and jointly develop a career/development with each team member. Ensure that each team member is assigned to project that will enable them to learn, grow and master new capabilities. Coordinate with project leaders to get feedback on performance as well as understand growth and development opportunities related to specific project assignments. Ensure new employees come up to speed quickly on both the technology and processes for client engagements.
  5. Deliver all Projects within Budget: While managers currently don’t have full budget responsibility, within the next year they will be responsible for managing the budget for each assigned project. This will include understanding timelines, resource allocation, burn rate and margin and profitability requirements. All projects must meet budget estimates and firm wide profitability targets.
  6. Actively Contribute Ideas and Tools to PowerPlan’s Project Methodology Knowledge Base and Standards. This includes sharing ideas, approaches and tools with the boarder team. Documenting how to use tools and processes to ensure successful project completion and standardizing the consulting approach. This is done under the direction of the Director of Professional Services.
  7. Identify opportunities to sell further consulting services within each client account. The best managers leverage their relationships and deep understanding of the clients processes and needs to identify opportunities for further engagement and sales within the target accounts. Coordinate with sales to help close these sales.
